Care for community is a core Cardan value — and one we are pleased to express with sponsorship of the National Kidney Foundation’s 37th Annual Great Chefs of the West.

The March 12 event brought together 25 of metro Denver’s top chefs, who competed to win the award for “best dish” as determined by the event’s 300 attendees. This year’s winner was Chef Merlin Verrier of Street Feud @ Avanti. You can find his winning Crispy Mushroom Taco at 3200 Pecos St., Denver.

The event also featured live music; a live auction; and a celebration of 2020 NKF Colorado Public Service Award Honorees state Sens. Julie Gonzalez and Dennis Hisey, and state Reps. Janet Buckner and Lois Landgraf.

“More than anything, we must say thank you to all of our sponsors for allowing us to continue to serve Coloradans by providing them and their families with the resources they need as they are dealing with kidney disease,” said Danielle Otsuka, development director of NKF Colorado.

The National Kidney Foundation is the largest, most comprehensive and longstanding organization dedicated to the awareness, prevention and treatment of kidney disease. In the United States, one in three people are at risk of kidney disease; 660,000 live with kidney failure; and 100,000 are awaiting a kidney transplant, including approximately 1,500 in Colorado, the foundation reports.
