Cardan Capital Partners is pleased to welcome Metropolitan State University of Denver’s (MSU) new president, Janine Davidson, who is being inaugurated with a week of special events Sept. 4-7. Cardan co-founding partner Marti Awad helped plan the festivities and recently wrote:
As a member of the Metropolitan State University of Denver Foundation board, the university’s charitable, fundraising arm, it has been an honor and pleasure to help plan these inaugural events. I support this outstanding urban university for so many reasons, including and especially because of its 20,000-plus students, more than half of whom are the first in their families to attend college. MSU also is dedicated to providing career-ready education and developing a workforce pipeline tailored to the needs of Denver and Colorado.
MSU has been recognized for innovation in forging public-private partnerships to advance its mission. For example, partnerships with the Marriott hotel chain and with global aerospace giant Lockheed Martin have provided internships and real-world job training for students and also have generated some revenue for the university.
Dr. Davidson is an especially capable leader whose arrival holds much promise for MSU. She has nearly 30 years of experience in military operations, national security and academic research. Before joining the university, Dr. Davidson served as the 32nd undersecretary of the United States Navy, managing all Department of the Navy affairs, including Navy and Marine Corp personnel, finance, research and development — making her responsible for the well-being of nearly 900,000 military and civilian personnel and their families. Dr. Davidson also was a senior fellow for defense policy at the Council on Foreign Relations. She has taught political science at Georgetown University, George Mason University and Davidson College. Her master’s degree and doctorate are from the University of South Carolina. I invite you to learn more about her here.
The week of inaugural events has included panel discussions with an array of experts in the public and private sectors. There also have been fun socials for networking. It’s a campuswide celebration — which you can learn more about here. If you’re interested in supporting Metro, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
