Cardan Capital Partners sponsored World Denver’s 2018 International Women’s Day Luncheon to deliver a powerful reminder that women can achieve anything.
Few women are better qualified to reinforce that message than the event’s keynote speaker, Dr. Mae Jemison, a NASA astronaut who became the first African American to travel into space when she went into orbit aboard the Space Shuttle Endeavour in 1992.Dr. Jemison — who is also a physician, engineer, author and Cornell University professor — spoke to more than 900 people at the event, including 65 grade-school girls pursuing studies in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM). She strongly advocates for science education and for attracting minority students to STEM fields.
International Women’s Day is celebrated worldwide to highlight women’s economic, political and social achievements. Cardan Capital Partners co-founding partner Marti Awad chaired the Denver event’s observance.
In this 2002 talk Dr. Jemison delivered during a TED conference, she called on educators to teach both the arts and sciences and both intuition and logic as one. We think you’ll enjoy it, too.
